Get Involved
You have two ways to get involved with our project: become a volunteer or use our tools to expand your services and support your community.
VOLUNTEER ROLES:
Researchers research, collect and organize information on licensing and certification, the labour market, company research, sector-specific terminology, etc. They may compile reference texts with Web links, glossaries and other reference materials.
Writers write articles, case studies, design self-study exercises, or conduct interviews. In preparation for the writing they may also do research.
Online discussion forum moderators do what it takes to keep an online discussion forum running in a way that is useful to the subscribers. They may edit or delete messages if they are not correct, misleading or offensive to other users. They encourage participants to share information, post questions and comments to initiate further discussion, and answer questions when necessary. Moderation may require some in-depth research and is a great way to learn while informing others.
Chat session moderators are the “emcee-s” for virtual events, like workshops, Q&A sessions or discussions. They determine, announce and enforce guidelines; help presenters to maintain the flow of the online event; and, if necessary, support participants who might be new to the chat experience. Moderators have to work closely with guest presenters and thus have a chance to establish new professional contacts.
Online presenters design and facilitate online workshops. If you are a good classroom facilitator you are only a tiny step away from mastering the virtual presentation – and we will help you with it.
Volunteering with ONIP.online
The writers and researchers for the Ontario Network for International Professionals
Online are mostly people like you: information officers, facilitators, employment
and career counsellors interested in breaking into a new field or finding
a new area for professional development. They work with us on a volunteer
basis.
Volunteering for ONIP.online is challenging, convenient and rewarding. You can choose the mixture which suits you best.
- Challenge - depending on your interests and the professional development experience you are looking for, you may choose a volunteer role that will help you venture into new areas and take on as much challenge as you want.
- Convenience - you do your volunteer work whenever you want, and you work wherever you want. You choose your own writing topics and volunteer activities in consultation with the project coordinator, and we welcome your ideas. You can live anywhere in Ontario, and still be a volunteer. Volunteer meetings are very rare - once every 4-6 weeks. If you are not in Toronto, your equivalent of a "volunteer meeting" will be a scheduled chat session.
- Reward - volunteering for ONIP.online boosts your career profile immediately - your name appears on the top of each article which you have researched or written. You will also receive guidance, support and access to new learning and networking opportunities and resources. Volunteering for ONIP.online is a chance to learn and hone new skills, build your image and make new connections.
You can use our tools - discussion forums and chat rooms - to conduct your own regional online workshops, set up a discussion board for a group of clients or colleagues, or invite a guest presenter to answer your particular concerns and questions. Tell us what you want to do, and we will help you set up.
