Information for Mentors
Mentors are volunteers who offer support and guidance to internationally-trained professional newcomers (mentees) to help them make informed career choices leading to suitable employment.

What is needed to become a mentor?
- A minimum of two years of professional work experience in Ontario.
- Interest in people from other countries and different cultures.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Interest in sharing knowledge.
- Understanding of Canadian workplace culture.
- Knowledge of skills required to meet market demands.
- Awareness of licensing issues.
- Experience in online communication.
How to become an online mentor?
Your responsibilities as a mentor will be to:
- Assist your mentee to:
- Understand the Canadian workplace culture
- Identify skills required to meet market demands
- Locate publications and presentation on recent professional developments
- Familiarize him/her with professional licensing procedures
- Identify employment opportunities
- Provide information on local industries and potential employers.
- Support and encourage your mentee in his/her efforts to find suitable
employment.
As a mentor with the program you will be expected to:
- Communicate with your mentee online
- Agree to the terms and conditions set out by the program
- Comply with the confidentiality requirements of the program
- Commit to a mentoring relationship for four months
- Complete the online orientation and training
- Communicate regularly with your mentee
- Provide monthly feedback to the program moderator
- Participate in the evaluation process for the program
