Information for Mentees

Who can participate in this program?

To be eligible for this program you must:

  • have a professional qualification outside Canada
  • not have worked in Canada in your profession
  • have been in Canada for not longer than three years
  • have had some work preparation intervention. This includes:
    1. Completion of a Job Search Workshop or more extensive Job Search Preparation program, and/or
    2. Individual work with an employment and career who has reviewed your professional resume, interviewing skills, understanding of the labour market and of job search techniques to ensure that they are adequate to the Canadian culture and work environment
  • have English language level of LINC 5 or equivalent

As a participant of this program you will be expected to:

  • communicate with your mentor online
  • agree to the terms and conditions set out by the program
  • comply with the confidentiality requirements of the program
  • commit to a mentoring relationship for four months
  • complete the online orientation and training
  • communicate regularly with your mentor
  • provide monthly feedback to the program moderator
  • participate in the evaluation process for the program

  • set realistic career goals / plans
  • help tap into the hidden job market
  • target specific resumes
  • introduce Canadian business practices and professional requirements
  • provide information on employer expectations and employment guidance
  • provide support and guidance through the professional licensing process
  • provide guidance in building professional networks

How can you join the program?

If you are interested in participating in this program, contact your career, employment or settlement counsellor. You will be asked to complete an application form, and submit your resume.

If a suitable mentor is available, you will be contacted by the Mentoring Coordinator and invited to complete the online orientation & training workshop before being introduced to your mentor.
